Portable Snack Options for People with Braces

Portable Snack Options for People with Braces

During your orthodontic treatment, you are probably going to find a list of foods you won't be able to eat. These dietary limitations could make it hard to find foods that you can take with you to school or work. This is why our Langley orthodontists are sharing a list of convenient snack and food ideas that you can take with you on the go.

Soft Veggies

There are many soft vegetables that can make a delicious and nutritious snack such as tomatoes, peppers, and the majority of cooked vegetables. They are generally easy to prepare and store in containers or baggies to take with you on a busy day at school or work. Another plus is that veggies are packed with vitamins and minerals that can help keep your body (and teeth) strong and healthy.

Soft Fruits

Soft fruits such as grapes, watermelon, and kiwi can be both sweet and refreshing. Fruits such as these contain lots of fiber which can help keep you full between meals. All you have to do is cut your fruit up at the start of the week and store your desired portions in your fridge with Tupperware containers or plastic baggies and you will be good to go.

Dairy

Pudding, yogurt, and soft cheeses are easy on your braces, taste great, and are full of calcium! Most of the time these snack options are easy to carry around but remember they do have to be kept cool.

Soft Meats

Meatballs, deli meats, and soft-cooked meats such as chicken are high in protein and are usually easy to chew with braces. Put them on your sandwiches or cook them in a large batch of sauce to eat with pasta, potatoes, and veggies during the week.

Thin Crackers or Vegetable Chips

You will find loads of healthy crackers and veggie chip options available at the grocery store. Be sure to choose low in sodium snacks if you can, and nothing that is too hard or crunchy. Enjoy these foods with your soft cheeses and fruit for a simple and delicious lunch!
